2025 Inductees
These 4 individuals and 1 teams are inducted into the Oromocto and Area Sports Wall of Fame. The induction ceremony took place at the Burton Lions Club in Burton N.B. on November 8th, 2025
Bill Jarrat - Builder
A proud Oromocto resident since 1990, Bill Jarratt dedicated over 30 years to advancing sport and recreation. As the Town’s Recreation and Tourism Director (2011–2023), he played a key role in developing programs, facilities, and events. A lifelong basketball advocate, he founded the Oromocto & Area Basketball Association, coached at OHS, Harold Peterson Middle School, BNB Midget, and UNB Summer Camps, and served as a referee. His commitment was recognized with the Town’s Achievement Award in 1994 and Basketball NB’s Special Merit Award in 2010.
Jerry Mccann - Builder
Jerry McCann is a pillar of sport and community, excelling as an athlete, coach, umpire, and builder for decades. A trailblazer, he was part of the first Gladstone Curling Club team to win a Provincial Mixed Championship. Jerry has coached teams at the Canada Games, Brier, and Senior Women’s Championships. His leadership extended off the ice as Co-Chair of the inaugural combined Men’s and Women’s Provincials, played on area ice, and Chair of the NB Curling Hall of Fame. A National and International Umpire, he has been recognized as NB Curling Volunteer of the Year and awarded the Queen’s Jubilee Medal.
Jordan Smith - Athlete
Jordan Smith, from Gagetown, dominated high school wrestling from 2004–2008 with an incredible 177–18 record. A 2006 Canadian Cadet National Champion and Most Outstanding Female Cadet Wrestler, she also earned a place on the U16 Team Canada in 2006 and the U18 Team Canada in 2008. Jordan captured NBIAA individual gold and led her team to provincial titles each year, earning NBIAA Most Valuable Female Wrestler, OHS Most Valuable Female Wrestler, and OHS Athlete of the Year in 2008. Jordan went on to earn a full wrestling scholarship to the University of Alberta.
Adam Valentate - Athlete
A longtime resident of the Oromocto area, living in both Lincoln and Rusagonis, Adam Valentate has built an outstanding athletic legacy. From 1990 to 2003 he excelled in wrestling, becoming a three-time NBIAA Champion, Juvenile Boys Greco-Roman National Champion, and Canada Games Silver Medalist. At UNB, he captured four Atlantic University Sport titles and twice earned Canadian Interuniversity Sport All-Canadian honors, placing 2nd and 3rd nationally, while being named UNB Male Athlete of the Year. Today, he remains active in sport through soccer, golf, and international toboggan racing.
Oromocto High School Hockey Team 1971 - Team
The 1970–1971 Oromocto High School Blues made history as the first OHS hockey team to capture the NBIHA Class “L” Provincial Championship, defeating Fredericton High to advance and then edging defending champion James M. Hill Academy 4–3 in overtime. That season, the Blues also won the NBCHC MacTavish for Sports Trophy, going undefeated at 12–0. They dominated offensively with the top four scorers and six of the top ten, while goaltenders anchored a defense that allowed just 19 goals in 10 games. The team also proudly represented Oromocto at the International High School Hockey Tournament in Copper Cliff, Ontario.
